ABILENE, Texas -- The Lumberjacks (19-29, 16-20 SLC) traveled to Abilene Christian (32-18, 23-12 SLC) this week to play in its final Southland Conference series of the year, dropping the first game to the Wildcats on Thursday, 13-3. The 'Jacks will be back in action on Friday for two more games against the No. 1 team in the conference, with Game 2 of the series slated for 2:05 p.m., followed by Game 3.

SFA struck first in this road matchup, able to garner one tally in the top of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Chaney Dodge's groundout RBI to the ACU shortstop cleared Sean Moore (2B LS) for the first run of the game, but the Wildcats delivered an answer in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI walk plus an RBI on a fielder's choice to take a 2-1 advantage after two.

The contest was knotted up at 2-2 in the third, with Lumberjack offense strung together by Jordan Monacy (1B RS, RBI) to bring around Kyle Cullen who previously reached base on a fielder's choice.

The fourth inning was the dagger in this matchup as the Wildcats connected on four hits for seven runs featured by a three-run homer to boost the lead to 9-2. The Wildcats tacked on two more runs in the fifth, in addition to one run in the sixth and seventh to take Game 1, 13-3 in seven innings.
