Lumberjacks Drop Two at ACU on Friday

ABILENE, Texas -- Two hard-fought ballgames were played at Crutcher Scott Field on Friday between the SFA Lumberjacks (19-31, 16-22 SLC) and No. 1 ACU Wildcats (34-18, 25-12 SLC), with the Wildcats attaining both contests. The 'Jacks will have one more chance to snag a victory against the 'Cats tomorrow at 2:05 p.m.
GAME 1 | ACU, 7-3
- ACU totaled seven hits and six RBI's in Game 1, versus SFA's five hits and one RBI in this contest.
- Kyle Cullen garnered the lone RBI for the 'Jacks, notching a base hit to third to score Burgos (1B CF) in the sixth.
- Kade Clemens and Sean Moore both connected on one single and one double to lead the team in total hits.
- Jake Zarrello singled up the middle in T-3.
- The Wildcats boosted a 7-0 advantage through five complete innings, topped off by a two-run homer from Eager in the fourth.
- In addition to the RBI single from Cullen in the sixth, Cullen and Clemens found home (unearned runs) able to advance on a throwing error to cut the ACU lead to four, but the Wildcats held on in the seven-inning bout.
GAME 2 | ACU, 6-4
- ACU found two quick runs in the bottom of the second teed up from an RBI triple plus a sacrifice fly, but the 'Jacks took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third by scoring three runs on four hits.
- In the top of the third, Chaney Dodge's RBI single cleared Jake Evangelista (BB), then Cal Martin (1B RS) pushed Dodge home, followed by Will Cerny singling to left field to give Sean Moore (1B RF) the green light.
- The Wildcats knotted the game up in the bottom of the fifth, able to score on a wild pitch.
- In the sixth, the 'Jacks stranded two on base while ACU converted on two runs from a pair of hits to enhance to lead to 5-3.
- ACU extended the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh, and the 'Jacks responded by Clayton Loranger grounding out to second base to bring around Cerny (1B RS), as both teams completed their final offense stanzas.
