
SFA Track and Field Sweeps Southland Conference Outdoor Titles

HUMBLE, Texas -- A banner day for the SFA Track and Field team resulted in a sweep of the 2021 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday inside Turner Stadium in Humble. The Lumberjacks kept their day two lead intact, winning the men's championship with a total of 135 points, 24 more than runner-up Southeastern Louisiana.The Ladyjacks posted a more resolute victory, scoring 171 points to win the title by 45 points. The title is the fifth in program history for the SFA men and 10th for the women's program.
SFA's success on the final day came from a variety of individual performances across the board, including four individual champions and two gold medal relays on the men's side. Nissi Kabongo won the women's high jump with a mark of 1.75m, while Kelsey Ramirez took gold in the 1500m run with a time of 4:26.94. Mathilde Coquillaud-Salomon was a two-time gold medalist in the 110m hurdles (13:46) and the 400m hurdles (59.68) to aid the women's cause with 20 points by herself. The Lumberjack men's relays swept the top podium spot in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.
A long list of conference scorers and podium finishers aided SFA's cause on the day, as the 'Jacks showed out in a variety of events.
