Wilbur Moves Past 500 Career Strikeouts in Shutout of Abilene Christian, 8-0

ABILENE, Texas -- The Ladyjack softball team completed its four consecutive series sweep with an 8-0 victory over Abilene Christian on Saturday, improving to 21-8 overall on the season. Kassidy Wilbur was stellar on the mound en route to passing the 500 strikeout mark for her career, and the SFA bats came alive as well to continue SFA's winning streak, which now stands at 11 games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ladyjacks wasted little time taking an early lead, as solo home runs from Camryn Middlebrook and Shaylon Govan belted solo home runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. In the third inning, Bryana Novegil walked to lead off the inning, and was then brought home by a two-run home run from Gaby Garcia, her fourth in as many games. After Govan singled to get on board, Mackenzie Bennet doubled to bring her around to score, and was brought in in turn by Marisa Arriaga on an RBI single.
Singles from Lexi Benson and Alex Dubose loaded the bases for the 'Jacks, and Novegil drove in Benson and Arriaga to round out the scoring at 8-0. With plenty of run support and a career milestone in sight, Wilbur dealt in the circle, hurling five shutout innings while scattering four hits and three walks across the five innings. With her seventh strikeout of the contest, Wilbur passed 500 career punchouts, and finished with 11 total in the contest.
Govan led the 'Jacks with three hits and two runs scored on the day, while Novegil and Garcia each drove in two runs.
