Lions Claim First Two, ‘Jacks Look To Bounce Back On Sunday

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Lumberjacks (12-18, 9-9) played its first Southland Conference contest since April 1st, dropping the first two games of this weekend's series to the No. 2 Southeastern Louisiana Lions (22-12, 15-7) on Saturday at Jaycees Field.
In Game 1 of today's doubleheader (SLU, 6-2), the Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the top of the sixth, with the offense especially striking in the fifth and sixth innings, as Finke and Cruz each connected on a home run in each frame to maximize the consistent advantage.
The Lumberjacks were able to respond during its half of the sixth by Sean Moore grounding out to second base for an RBI to bring around Skylar Black, cutting the SLU lead to four. The Lions gained one more run in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-1 until Moore flied out to right field to score Gabe Irwin, but wasn't enough for the 'Jacks to garner the first game of the series. The Lions converted on nine hits to SFA's eight.
Game 2 (SLU, 7-4) simulated the first game of the series by the Lions taking a 5-0 lead through six complete, but the 'Jacks found an explosive offensive rhythm in the seventh, only trailing 5-4 during this stanza of the game.
Adrian Minjares singled to right field to kick off the inning, advancing Jacob Evangelista (BB, E2) home, followed by Jordan Monacy grounding into a double play able to score Cameron Crawford (1B MI). Clayton Loranger then singled up the middle for Kyle Cullen (BB) to charge through, and a double from Skylar Black allowed Loranger to score.
SLU added one run in the eighth and the ninth to secure the victory, with SFA not able to climb back in this one.

Tomorrow's doubleheader will consist of one seven inning game starting at 1:00 p.m., followed by a second nine inning bout taking place 40 minutes after the completion of the first game.
