
Gillett's Double-Double Helps Ladyjacks Stomp UCA, 3-1

The Ladyjacks took the floor at Shelton Gymnasium for the first time since February 27th on Thursday, taking down the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears, 3-1 (25-15, 13-25, 25-22, 25-15) in another Southland Conference matchup. Pilgrim's Player of the Game Coco Gillett exploded for a double-double (20 kills and 11 digs) to lead the way for the Ladyjacks on a .421 hitting percentage, as the Ladyjacks hit .225 on the night as a team to secure the victory. The Ladyjacks handily took the first set 25-15 with the Sugar Bears clinching the second set 25-13 to extend the match to at least four, but SFA clinched the final two, 25-22, 25-15. The Ladyjacks move to 20-5, 8-1 in SLC play.

In the first set, the Ladyjacks throttled a kill from Payton Cerny to put the first point of the board, and the 'Jacks were able to score five straight points twice to take a 13-3 right away. One of Gillett's kills on the night scored the 15th point of the game for SFA, and she was able to rattle off two more kills to boost the lead to 17-6. The Ladyjacks dominated the first set hitting a game-high .444, winning it 25-15. The second set was a different story since the Sugar Bears took advantage of SFA attack errors for a 11-2 lead, which was eventually snapped by an Ielan Bradley kill. The 'Jacks closed to lead to 12-7, but UCA's efficiency was enough to hold back the home team. The third and fourth sets belonged to SFA, as the Ladyjacks held UCA to a scoreless hitting percentage (7-37) in the fourth set.
SFA totaled 11 aces on the night with Allie Hamsher contributing four, along with Ariana Pagan chipping in three and Madelynn Miller with two. The Ladyjacks totaled nine blocks to UCA's six, as Taya Mitchell led the way with six, plus three each from Ashley Procious and Kennedy Wright. Madelynn Miller continued to show in the digs department to contribute 14 digs, in addition to 11 from Gillett.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action for another Southland Conference matchup against the Northwestern State Demons on Saturday, March 20th at Shelton Gymnasium. First serve is slated for 1:00 p.m.
