In SFA's second match in three days, the Ladyjacks (19-5, 7-1) came up short at Southeastern Louisiana, 3-1 (23-25, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25) Saturday afternoon to round out the weekend with a win (Nicholls) and a loss. While the first and game-clinching sets were edged in SLU's favor, the Ladyjacks were able to grab the third set to push a fourth set. Madelynn Miller (Pilgrim's Player of the Game) surpassed 1,000 career kills at SFA during the midst of the game, owning 1,027 in a Ladyjack uniform as she dug 23 in a win at Nicholls on Friday and 33 today.
The Ladyjacks were held to .155 offensively, as Taya Mitchell put together the most efficient performance, where she snagged eight kills on 28 attempts (.381) and five blocks for 11 total points. Ashley Procious was second in line in offensive production, going 7 for 15 (.333), in addition to Payton Cerny (9) and Leah Powell (8) providing for the Ladyjacks.
In Set 1, both teams were evenly matched in the middle of the set at 15-15, but the Lady Lions scored three straight points from a Ladyjack service error, a kill and an ace, but soon for Ashley Procious to respond with a kill of her own to put the margin back to two. SLU only led 19-18 after an attack error in this set (BA Taya Mitchell and Payton Cerny), but the ability to score two points in a row was critical, as the Lady Lions won it 25-23. After playing from behind and falling 19-25 in the second set, the Ladyjacks scored seven points in a row to grab a 20-15 lead in the third, with SLU responding with a kill and two SFA attack errors, but not enough to catch up with SFA for a final score of 25-19. In the fourth set, the Ladyjacks led 23-21, but fell due to the Lady Lions closing out the set with three kills and an SFA attack error.
SFA will be back in action next Thursday, March 28th at Central Arkansas.
