Nicholls Holds Onto Two One-Run Wins in Doubleheader Against SFA, 3-2, 2-1

THIBODAUX, Louisiana -- The Lumberjack baseball team fell to the Colonels in two hard-fought games in today's doubleheader, 3-2, 2-1. The timing of each offensive sequence was important for both teams due to two one-run wins for Nicholls, as Game 1 was extended to 10 innings when the score was tied 2-2 after the first seven ,where the Colonels won in walkoff fashion. In Game 2, SFA punched the first run on the board, but Nicholls tallied a run in the sixth and seventh to edge the 'Jacks. The Lumberjacks move to 2-9, 0-3 in conference play.
In Game 1, Nicholls hopped on the board to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, guided by an RBI double down the left field line to score teammate Dane Simon (HBP) with two outs. The 'Jacks heated up in the top of the fifth inning after Skylar Black singled up the middle to score Cal Campbell who pinch ran for Will Cerny (BB), plus a sacrifice bunt from Kyle Cullen to charge home Kade Clemens (SFA, 2-1). The Colonels were able to respond in their portion of the inning, tying it up 2-2 to conclude the fifth. The winning run came from a bases-loaded RBI HBP in the tenth to grab Game 1, 3-2.
SFA was the first team to score a run in Game 2, set up by an RBI double credited to Jake Zarrello to drive Jake Evangelista (1B) in for a 1-0 advantage in the top of the fourth. It wasn't until a sacrifice bunt RBI created another run for the Colonels in the sixth, and an unearned run from a 3b error drove in the final run for Nicholls to win the game, 3-2.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action for one more game tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
