
SFA Track and Fields Earns 24 All-Conference Selections & Five SLC Superlative Awards

FRISCO, Texas -- A week after capturing the 2021 Southland Conference Indoor title on the men's side and claiming third on the women's side, the SFA Track and Field team was showered with All-Conference recognition and superlative awards in a release of the indoor awards by the conference office on Thursday morning. SFA athletes earned a total of 24 All-Conference First, Second or Third Team honors based on their podium finish at the indoor meet earlier this month, while standpoint performances by a pair of 'Jacks earned them additional honors from the league.
Freshman Auhmad Robinson provided perhaps the most memorable sequence of the meet in the championship's final event, as his come from behind surge on the final lap of the men's 4x400 relay sealed the title for the Lumberjacks, their first indoor league title since 2015. For his performance at the meet, which included a gold medal finish in the 200m as well as a top finish as part of the men's 4x400 relay. Auhmad was recognized as the SLC Men's Freshman of the Year as well as Men's Outstanding Running Events Performer of the meet for his efforts over the weekend.
No stranger to All-Conference accolades, senior Kelsey Ramirez came through in spades for the Ladyjacks at the meet, accounting for over 30 percent of SFA's point total by herself. She was a gold medalist in the mile run and distance medley relay while also taking second place honors in the 3000M and 5000M races. In addition to her four all-conference nods, she was named Women's Outstanding Running Events Performer of the Year as well as Women's Athlete of the Year. All told, Ramirez has earned 13 All-Conference nods in track and field during her career at SFA.
Coaching the men's team to its fourth indoor title and first since 2015, head coach Phil Olson earned Coach fo the Year honors on the men's side in the Thursday morning release. Olson last earned Coach of the Year honors on the men's side in 2015 as well, and captured his 37th title as head of the SFA Track and Field program by guiding the men to 105 total points.
In addition to the superlative award winners, the Southland Conference also released the All-Conference First, Second and Third Teams as well. Placement on the team was earned via a first, second or third place finish, accordingly, in each finals event at the Southland Conference Indoor Meet.
