
Ladyjacks Grab SLC Win No. 2 at UIW, 3-0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas --
The Ladyjacks traveled to San Antonio Saturday afternoon for a Southland Conference showdown with the Incarnate Word Cardinals. UIW was seeking its first victory of the season, but SFA traveled back to Nacogdoches with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-21, 26-24).

SET 1 | SFA gained immediate momentum in the first set from a UIW service error, followed by an Ariana Pagan kill for the first few points of the game for the Ladyjacks. A kill from Payton Cerny (from Maddy Bourque) and two attack errors gave SFA a 5-1 lead, and the Cardinals were only able to get within four points from there. Pagan had six kills in the first set, leading the way for the Ladyjacks. From a defensive standpoint, UIW finished with a 0.029 hitting percentage, totaling only seven kills on 34 attempts. SFA had a game-high hitting percentage of .412 to win the first set, 25-14.
SET 2 | The Cardinals didn't back down in the second set and took a slim 6-5 lead at one point. A Leah Powell kill (from Taya Mitchell) tied the set up 6-6, followed by a kill from Taya Mitchell (from Allie Hamsher) to give the Ladyjacks a one-point lead again. SFA was able to garner its largest lead of the set 21-13 from four Cardinal attack errors, but UIW was able to capture four straight points to make it 23-21. Mitchell and Pagan had a kill each for the final two points of the game for the Ladyjacks to win it, 25-21.
SET 3 | What was to be the final set between the two squads went into extra points, with both teams trading points in the set that was going to keep the Cardinals alive. The Ladyjacks developed a four-point advantage at 16-12, but UIW scored four points themselves to tie it 16-16. UIW had a 23-21 lead before two kills from Cerny (from Bourque and Madelynn Miller), and SFA was able to pull out the victory in three, 26-24.
