Ladyjacks Chirp Over Lamar Cardinals Thursday Night, 3-0

NACOGDOCHES, Texas --
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks flew away with a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-23, 25-16) against the Lamar Cardinals at Shelton Gymnasium Thursday night, and improve to 15-4, 3-0 in Southland Conference play. The Ladyjacks finished the night with a .303 hitting percentage, and held the Cardinals to .163 on the outing, including a -0.034 hitting percentage in the final set to seal the victory. Taya Mitchell led the Ladyjack attack with eight kills and five blocks, followed by Ariana Pagan contributing seven kills and 10 digs.

Both squads finished the first set hitting .273, but one team had to pull away in the first set of the match. The Cardinals remained agressive during the entire match, with the Ladyjacks slightly pulling away from time to time. A key spurt in this set was at the 18-15 mark (SFA), consisting of an Ashley Procious kill (from Allie Hamsher), an ace from Maddy Bourque, a Lamar attack error (block by Procious and Payton Cerny) and a kill from Ariana Pagan (from Madelynn Miller). Lamar was able to get the score back to 19-18, but SFA capitalized on attack errors, boosting the lead back up to 23-18. Taya Mitchell sealed the deal in this set (from Hamsher), to give her team a 25-22 victory in the first set.
SET 2 | SFA, 25-23
Lamar put together a 9-7 lead to begin the set, soon for SFA to manage a spurt of their own scoring four straight points, capped off by a Lamar attack error (block by Mitchell and Powell) to give SFA a 13-9 advantage. Lamar converted on 16 kills in this set to SFA's 10, and those numbers showed as SFA had a slight 24-23 lead to almost clinch the set. At this point, three players had five kills for the Ladyjacks (Wright, Pagan and Mitchell) and Powell with four. The Ladyjacks secured game point from a Lamar attack error, with the Cardinals committing 20 total errors on the night.
SET 3 | 25-16
Set 3 was the Ladyjacks' strongest set offensively, going 13 for 28 (.357) on the attack, tallying three of its eight blocks in this set. SFA was able to grasp onto a steady lead from the start of the game-clinching set. The Ladyjacks hit the 20-point mark from a Cardinals attack error, and a kill from Procious (from Hamsher) soon made it 21-14 SFA. Ielan Bradley's kill (from Bourque) put the home team in game-point contention, and Mitchell sealed the deal once again with a kill of her own (from Bourque) to close it, 25-16.
