DENTON, Texas -- The final day of play at the North Texas Invitational saw the Ladyjacks drop a pair of one-run decisions on the day after incoming weather forced a schedule adjustment and earlier play times than anticipated. Despite the circumstances, strong pitching kept the score close for SFA and saw them lead most of the way in the opener against Tarleton State and hang close to host UNT in the matinee, before falling by a 2-1 tally in each contest.
GAME 1 | vs. TARLETON STATE
After Shaylon Govan put the Ladyjacks ahead with her second home run of the season and second in as many games in the first inning, the 'Jacks would hold the lead until the top of the third, when the Texans finally broke through against Kassidy Wilbur in the circle with a game-tying solo home run. A sacrifice fly one inning later provided the go-ahead run that would ultimately prove decisive, as SFA tallied six hits on the day but left five runners on base.
Wilbur pitched a complete game of five-hit ball, allowing the two earned runs while walking one and striking out 12 batters. Govan had three of SFA's hits on the day, while Savanna Parker had a double for SFA's other extra base hit.
GAME 2 | vs. NORTH TEXAS
In game two of the day, freshman Raigan Mock got the start in the circle and would get tagged for two runs by the Mean Green in the opening inning. Mock pitched a scoreless second frame before giving way to Wilbur in relief, who hurled four innings of one-hit ball while adding eight more strikeouts to her impressive weekend total. SFA would only surrender four hits to UNT on the day, but were held to six hits by a pair of UNT pitchers and despite plating a run off an RBI single in the seventh by Bryana Novegil, would not be able to find the tying run in the contest.
Novegil and Parker tallied two hits apiece in the game, while Alex Dubose and Kayla Wallace tallied the others.
