Lumberjacks Surge Past Wildcats Behind Davis' Stellar Night
2/26/2021 10:09:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- A go-ahead goal from senior Destiny Davis provided the necessary spark and the Lumberjack defense held firm in a 2-0 victory over Abilene Christian at SFA Soccer Field on Friday night. Davis also assisted on SFA's second goal at The Chopping Block, as the 'Jacks tallied their second straight home victory and improved to 4-2-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SFA came out on the offensive in the contest, registering three shots within the game's first four minutes of play. ACU nearly scored first blood in the 14th minute, as a Wildcat shot rang off the crossbar and out of play. The 'Jacks registered consecutive looks at goal in the 22nd and 25th minutes from Carli Arthurs and Colleen Feagins, the latter of which forced an ACU save.
In the game's 34th minute the 'Jacks finally struck, as Davis took the ball down the right side of the field and fired off a shot from a tough angle that the ACU keeper got a hand on but was unable to keep out of the net. The margin carried through the halftime intermission and into the second half, where the 'Jacks would strike again thanks to another stellar play from Davis. Attacking once again in the 85th minute, Davis threaded a beautiful through ball into the box, where it found a waiting Jamie Jezierski for a cheeky finish that beat the goalkeeper and doubled the lead.
LEADERS
Carli Arthurs led SFA with four shots in the contest, while Davis and Feagins each notched a pair. Madeline Talbot recorded four saves in the clean sheet effort between the sticks, playing all 90 minutes.
UP NEXT
SFA will face UIW at home on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Cardinals are 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
