Lumberjacks Construct Four-Run 6th Inning to Best Mavericks, 5-2

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Lumberjacks (2-0) captured its first win of a three-game series with the UT Arlington Mavericks out of the Sun Belt Conference Friday night, with a final score of 5-2. The Mavericks strung together a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd built by a combination of a Lumberjacks throwing error, ground out and wild pitch, but Head Coach Johnny Cardenas and company displayed resilience by holding the Mavericks to only two runs on two hits with 11 runners stranded, and handed UT Arlington (1-2) its second loss of the season.
LUMBERJACK ARMS
- Angelo Gennari was awarded the win tonight in five innings of work, featuring five K's and allowing one run
- Harrison Lee hopped on the hill for 2.2 innings, retiring five Mavericks with one run
EFFICIENT 6TH INNING
- A leadoff walk from Kyle Cullen eventually came around to score due to Cullen stealing second and a ground out from Jordan Monacy advancing Cullen to 3rd
- Sean Moore singled to left field to bring home Cullen (1-1)
- Clayton Loranger's at-bat resulted in a walk, allowing Moore to advance to 3rd
- Two Lumberjack runners were on 1st and 2nd when Chaney Dodge homered to left field (3 RBI) with two outs on the board, as Loranger and Moore scored two SFA runs (SFA, 4-1)
MAVERICKS KEEP IT CLOSE IN B-8
- Wyatt Divis was walked with two outs to load the bases, and SFA decided to make a pitching change (Skyler Jaco)
- Jaco walks Josh Minjarez, Phillip Childs advances to 3rd, and Divis scored on a wild pitch (SFA, 4-2)
SFA ADDS ANOTHER ONE TO THE BOARD
- Cameron Crawford reached 2nd base from a UT Arlington throwing error, followed by Kyle Cullen singling up the middle to set up Crawford's quest to home plate
- SFA led 5-2 heading into B-9
- Lumberjacks held Mavericks in B-9 with bases loaded to grab the victory
