
Ladyjacks Comprise Balance in UNO Sweep; Fifth Straight Southland Conference Victory

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks attained its fifth straight Southland Conference victory in a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-14, 25-13) against the New Orleans Privateers in Shelton Gymnasium Thursday night. The Ladyjack offense (ranked No. 6 in Team Kills in NCAA Division I, 892) was active on all cylinders during each set, reinforcing its ability to create consistency to finish with 40 kills on 100 attempts (.320). Not only did the Ladyjacks showcase their ability to score, but they limited the Privateers' strategy, holding UNO to a .147 hitting percentage with 14 errors.

The Ladyjacks never trailed during the first set of the night, with only two instances where the score was tied early on (1-1, 2-2). SFA was the first team to get to double digit points off of an Ariana Pagan kill (from Allie Hamsher) to lead the set 10-8, and the Ladyjacks were soon able to establish a five-point lead (13-8) capped off by a kill from Ashley Procious (from Maddy Bourque). The Privateers slimmed the SFA lead to three (21-18) off an attack error, but the combination of a UNO attack error and two kills from Leah Powell gave SFA the first win of the night.
SET 2 | SFA, 25-14
SFA clinched the first point of the set from a UNO bad set, and the Ladyjacks did not look back from that point on. The Ladyjacks opened up a 10-1 lead created by two kills from Powell, one kill apiece from Ielan Bradley and Taya Mitchell, and a service ace credited to Allie Hamsher. The Privateers committed five errors in this set with a .146 hitting percentage in this frame, compared to SFA's three errors on .194. Powell charged the SFA attack with eight kills thus far, followed by Payton Cerny with six.
SET 3 | 25-13
It was all Ladyjacks in what was to be the final set of the evening, as the home team put together a game-high .393 hitting percentage (13 kills on 28 attempts), and restricted UNO to -.040 in this set. A Payton Cerny kill (from Maddy Bourque) created the first double digit lead (18-8), with the Privateers only scoring five more points in the set. Kennedy Wright put the cherry on top for the Ladyjacks for the final game point.
