
Powell's Stellar Offensive Outing Boosts Ladyjacks Past McNeese, 3-0

It was all Ladyjacks in the 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-15, 25-13) against the McNeese Cowgirls Saturday afternoon, as SFA was able to move to 16-4, 4-0 on Southland Conference play. Leah Powell was feisty on the attack contributing 14 kills and two blocks to lead her team, along with Taya Mitchell's seven kills and four blocks. Ariana Pagan and Ielan Bradley recorded six kills apiece to enhance the Ladyjacks .245 hitting percentage, where the Cowgirls didn't go above .241 after the first set. From a defensive standpoint, two Ladyjacks finished with four kills (Ashley Procious and Taya Mitchell), and Payton Cerny with three. It was an all-around team performance for SFA, as the Ladyjacks outnumbered the Cowgirls in kills (41-19), assists (37-19), and digs (49-35).
SET 1 | SFA, 25-19
McNeese put the first few points on the board, but Leah Powell started her dominant offensive day with the first kill for the Ladyjacks (from Maddy Bourque) to make it 2-1, McNeese. It was a back and fourth trending set with seven ties and three lead changes, but SFA was finally able to solidify a slight three point lead (13-10) from a kill from Taya Mitchell (from Maddy Bourque). The Ladyjacks were able to put six straight points together to make it 24-16 from a Madelynn Miller ace, and an attack error gave SFA point number 25.
SET 2 | SFA, 25-15
After the Ladyjacks led Set 2 early on (2-1), there were zero lead changes during this set's span. Powell and Mitchell each collected three kills during the set, with Miller tallying her 13 dig at this point in the game. SFA led by at least a handful of points in the second half of the set, with Ariana Pagan's kill (from Ashley Procious) giving the Ladyjacks a 19-11 lead just before the 20-point mark. The final three kills of the set from Pagan, Payton Cerny and Powell's gave SFA its second win of the day, 25-15.

The Ladyjacks hit its game-best .357 in this set, and the home team was ultimately able to capitalize off of McNeese's errors (8) and limited number of kills (5). SFA captured a double digit lead at 14-4, and the Cowgirls were only able to get within seven points at halfway through the set (15-8), and four points after the Ladyjacks scored point number 20.
