
Volleyball Suffers Setback at Sam Houston on Friday

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- The SFA volleyball team could not get its offense humming with its usual efficiency on Friday night and fell to rival Sam Houston in straight sets as a result, 23-25, 19-25, 19-25. SFA hit just .092 for the match and struggled with errors in the match en route to drop its first match in WAC play.
SET ONE
SHSU got off to a quick start in the opening set, taking a 3-0 lead. The two teams would trade the lead back and forth for most of the set and it was the 'Jacks who held a key lead late in thr set, as Payton Cerny hammered home a kill to go ahead 23-21. The Bearkats would rattle off four straight points from there to steal the set, 25-23.
SET TWO
SFA jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening of set two, only to yield a six-point run to the Bearkats to fall behind in the frame. SHSU would hold the lead the rest of the way, and despite a Kodia Garcia kill that pulled SFA within two at 21-19, the Bearkats once again closed out the set on a run, winning four quick points to polish off set two, 25-19.
SET THREE
After trading leads back and forth in set three, SHSU used a 5-1 run to open up a 16-12 lead, which they would hold the rest of the way in the set. SFA pulled within four at 23-19 on a kill by Valeria Rosado, but yielded two more points to Sam Houston to finish the set 25-19 and the match, 3-0.
LADYJACK NOTABLES
• Kennedy Wright had eight kills to lead the 'Jacks, while Rosado added seven.
• Maddy Borque dished out 15 assists and Garcia had 12.
• Bryli Contreras posted 17 digs, while Rosado had 12.
