
Superior Ladyjack Defense Stumps Vaqueros; Ties NCAA Division I Single-Game Team Blocks Record Across Four Sets

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks arguably played their most exhilarating match of this year's campaign, as the home squad defeated the UTRGV Vaqueros, 3-1 (25-16, 29-31, 25-16, 25-21) due to an exceptionally impressive outing on the defensive end.
The 'Jacks tied the single-game team blocks record across four sets in NCAA Division I with 22 total to secure their seventh Western Athletic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon in Shelton Gym.
Kelsey Harrington was the backbone in today's victory on all cylinders, where she contributed a double-double performance (11 kills and 11 blocks) on .526 with only one error. Three other Ladyjacks notched double-digit kills on the day, including Payton Cerny (13), Valeria Rosado (12), and Leah Powell (11).
Not only did Cerny complement the offense, she nearly clipped double-digit blocks with nine. Taya Mitchell tied her career-high with 11 blocks, while Leah Powell earned five blocks to enhance the aggressive play at the net.
The Ladyjack defense influenced every facet of the game, limiting the Vaqueros to a .099 hitting percentage with 32 errors to SFA's 19. The 'Jacks claimed a .280 hitting percentage, featured by .326 in the fourth set to seal the deal.
Kodi Garcia (26), Maddy Bourque (21) and Ariana Pagan (4) accounted for all 51 assists in today's match. Garcia registered 11 digs, respectively.
The 'Jacks head into next week 16-6, 7-3 WAC as they'll travel to Tarleton State on Thursday and Abilene Christian on Saturday.
