The Lumberjacks defeated the Vaqueros by a score of 2-1 in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon to remain perfect against WAC competition this season. Laney Kimble opened the scoring early after getting a head to an amazing deep ball from Jamie Jezierski off of a free kick. UTRGV equalized early in the second half courtesy of Anna Torslov before Carly Wyatt bagged her first goal of the season in the 76th minute to secure three points for the 'Jacks.
The 'Jacks finished with six shots on goal, doubling that of UTRGV. This was the second time in three games the SFA defense held the opponents to just three shots on goal.
Mattie Musser picked up her second assist of the season, putting her at a team-high five total goal involvements. Jezierski's assist puts her joint-top on the team with Colleen Feagins with three.
Maddie Talbot improved to an even 5-5-1 on the season, making two important stops to ensure the Lumberjack victory.
The perfect conference record sees SFA top of the Southwest division with nine points, two ahead of Abilene Christian. The 'Jacks will look to extend their lead atop of the division as they take on the Wildcats on Friday, October 8th at 7:00 p.m. The heavyweight clash will be the first of four straight home games for the Lumberjacks.
