The Lumberjacks came away with three points on Friday after a beautiful long-distance goal from Caylon McMillan in the eighth minute proves to be enough against the visiting Vaqueros. The win completes the season-sweep of UTRGV and moves the 'Jacks to 6-0 in conference play.
The McMillan strike was her third goal in the last two games, bumping her point total on the season to seven, good for fifth on the team. Teia Haynes assisted the goal, grabbing her sixth goal contribution of the season which is second only to Colleen Feagins with eight.
Madeline Talbot stopped four shots and kept her fourth clean sheet of the year as she improves to 8-5-1 on the season. Carli Arthurs, Mattie Musser, Jamie Jezierski and Paige Kanipes all played the full 90 and kept the UTRGV attack from generating dangerous chances. Sophie Smith and Mariona Garcia also put in 90 minutes of work controlling the midfield.
The 18 points earned from the six wins still sees the 'Jacks in firm control of first place in the Southwest Division, five points ahead of second-placed Lamar and nine ahead of rival Sam Houston State.
The final home game of the season will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. as the Lumberjacks take on Lamar for a chance to go eight points clear atop of the division.
