
SFA Goes 2-0 in Doubleheader at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana --
The SFA women's volleyball team had a quick turnaround this weekend as they played a double header at Houston on Friday, and turned right back around to play a double header against Tulane in New Orleans on Saturday to redeem themselves after two hard-fought losses against the Cougars just a day before.
The Ladyjacks started the day with a match at 10:00 a.m., and came away with a 3-1 win over the Green Wave to kick off the road trip on the right note. The afternoon was even sweeter, because the Ladyjacks swept its opponent 3-0 to finish 2-0 on the day. SFA improves to 11-6, and 4-0 in Southland Conference play.

SFA, 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-19)

Set 1 | Tulane, 25-23
The Ladyjacks were down by as many as eight points in this set (16-8), but were able to respond with a 15-6 run to get themselves back into the ballgame. SFA was able to capitalize off of Tulane attack errors and service errors, as well as receiving a key kill from Ariana Pagan to make it 19-16, and the Ladyjacks got as close as 22-23 before a Tulane timeout, and again at 23-24 from a Leah Powell kill (from Maddy Bourque). But, a Tulane kill boosted the Green Wave to a 25-23 win in the first set.
Set 2 | Tulane played from behind the entire set, and were not able to go on any big run. The Green Wave came as close as 18-17 SFA which forced a Ladyjack timeout, and Tulane tied it up 18-18 from a Lexie Douglas kill to get first lead at 20-19, and another Lexie Douglas kill for Tulane makes it 21-19, Green Wave. The game was tied up at 22-22 after a ballhandling error for Tulane as well as an attack error, and block assist from Ielan Bradley followed by an attack error from Lexie Douglas ties it again at 24-24. A kill from Payton Cerny and a ball handling error from Tulane allowed the Ladyjacks to become victorious, 26-24.
Set 3 | Three straight aces from Maddy Bourque helped SFA to a 3-0 lead, and three straight aces from Taya Mitchell made it 15-8 SFA, the largest lead in the game, and the Ladyjacks were able to stay consistent offensively in this set, as SFA wins, 25-19. The Green Wave was able to get within four at 22-18, but three out of the last four points scored for either team consisted of a kill from Mitchell, Hamsher and Cerny.
Set 4 | This was a back and fourth set tied at 14-14 from an attack error from Payton Cerny, but was quickly a 16-15 SFA lead due to a Tulane attack error. Ashley Procious strengthened the slight lead with a kill to make it 20-17, and a block assist from Ashley Procious and Ielan Bradley pushed the lead out to four. Cerny had the game winning kill, and SFA won it 25-19.

The Ladyjacks were able to come away with a sweep with a hitting percentage of .235, but ultimately holding Tulane to .082 on the afternoon. SFA had a total of 40 kills between the three sets, compared to Tulane's 27. The Ladyjacks led in every statistical department besides blocks, but found a way to compile 36 assists to Tulane's 23, and 62 digs to Tulane's 49.
