Lumberjack Basketball Earns Team NABC Team Academic Award; Pair of Individuals Named to NABC Honor Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the seventh annual Team Academic Excellence Awards, recognizing the top performing basketball teams in the realm of academics. SFA men's basketball was one of the team's honored in the release, which requires a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better for the 2019-20 season. SFA was one of just three Southland Conference schools to earn the team academic award.
Coming off a historic 28-3 season which saw them upset top-ranked Duke inside Cameron Indoor Stadium, rattle off a nearly unbeaten conference season on the way to the SLC regular season title and set a conference record for league wins, the Lumberjacks also succeeded in the classroom. The team put together a 3.05 combined GPA, led by a pair of NABC Honor Court honorees in Gavin Kensmil and Tyler Zivney.
The duo, both juniors and Kinesiology majors, posted 3.2 or higher GPA's to earn recognition on the NABC Honors Court, as released on Wednesday.
