
SFA Athletics Mourns Passing of Former Football Coach Charlie Simmons

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin athletics and the football program are mourning the passing of former coach and longtime Lumberjack supporter Charlie Simmons over the weekend. Simmons, 88, passed away in his home in Nacogdoches on Sunday.
Simmons served as both head football coach of the Lumberjacks and athletic director for Stephen F. Austin during his time in Nacogdoches. He coached the Lumberjacks from 1976-1981, and was named the Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year in 1979.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches. A funeral service for Simmons will be held at First Methodist Church on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
