
Johnson, Nugent Lead SFA over Northwestern State, 61-45

NATCHITOCHES, LA --Aiyana Johnson and Zya Nugent combined to score 37 points in the SFA Ladyjacks' 61-45 win over the Northwestern State Lady Demons on the road Wednesday. The win improved SFA's overall record to 21-5 and conference record to 14-3.
The Ladyjacks had three players score in double figures, led by Johnson, who had 19 points and two blocks. Nugent added 18 points off the bench and Brianna Mitchell chipped in as well with 10 points.
SFA shared the ball well in Wednesday's game, racking up 17 assists on 22 made field goals. Individually, Kennedy Harris dished out the most for the Ladyjacks with five assists.
SFA did a great job disrupting Northwestern State shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Johnson's two rejections led the way individually for the Ladyjacks.

GAME SUMMARY
After playing to a 6-6 tie early in the game, SFA went on a 5-0 run with 6:07 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Johnson, to take an 11-6 lead. The Ladyjacks then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 16-9 advantage. SFA did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 16 points close to the basket.
The Ladyjacks used the second period to increase their lead and entered halftime with a 28-20 edge. SFA was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its 12 points.
SFA continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 13-0 run to expand its lead further to 45-26 with 1:07 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Lady Demons had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Ladyjacks still entered the fourth quarter with a 45-29 edge. SFA played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.
SFA kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Nugent's three, to grow the lead to 50-31 with 7:27 to go in the contest. The Lady Demons narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Ladyjacks still cruised the rest of the way for the 61-45 win. SFA fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 16 points.
