Black's Key Hit Breaks Late Tie for 3-2 Win Over Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. -- The SFA baseball team broke through after a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning and closed the door in the final three innings to beat the Arkansas State Red Wolves 3-2 Friday. Skylar Black delivered SFA the season-opening win with an RBI single in the seventh inning, one of three RBI's on the day.

Sophomore Jaxon Covington (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for SFA (1-0). The southpaw went three shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out three. Junior Angelo Gennari also made an impact on the mound for the 'Jacks, starting the ballgame and throwing four innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.

At the plate, the 'Jacks were led by Black, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBIs. Junior Dillon Eatman put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk.
