FRISCO, Texas -- Sophomore pole vaulter Branson Ellis capped off a great weekend of competition with the NCAA's second-highest mark in the indoor season at the Fastrak Collegiate Invitational, and has been named the Southland Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week as a result, per a release from the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
Ellis topped the Southland Conference leader boards and moved into second on the NCAA indoor list with his mark of 5.62m (18-5.25), which also marked the best height of his collegiate career.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
