NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA women's soccer team (1-2) got back in the win column in a big way in Friday's home opener, trouncing Southern University 6-0 in front of several hundred fans at SFA Soccer Field. Katelyn Termini and Sophia Fondren each netted a brace of goals to lead a Ladyjack offense that outshot the Jaguars 34-4 and scored five first-half goals. Termini added three assists to finish with a career-best seven points, having a direct hand in five of SFA's six goals on the night.
COACH CRITTENDEN'S THOUGHTS
On the dominant performance on offense by his team:
"Yeah it was great, you certainly see what going to Charleston did in preparing us for the competitive intensity, speed of play and demands of the game. I thought we came out with great energy and great focus, and there were some things from a scheme standpoint that we made a high priority and did really well on tonight. I'm certainly excited for our team, anytime you win a game at the Division I level its something to be excited about, and all around I think we were prepared for the things we would be tested in and responded really well."
On the performance of Katelyn Termini and Sophia Fondren:
"Both of them certainly played at a very high level tonight, and you saw some other players who have been out with injury come in and affect the game positively with their possession and skill, and that helped free up Termini and Fondren as well. The training environment has been really good the last couple days because of the depth we're getting back from health, and we're certainly excited for that."
On the support from the home crowd and Purple Haze:
"It's great to have had several hundred people here, along with our student section Purple Haze. As we continue to look at the next phase of this facility, I think we have an opportunity to create a really tough, special place to play. I've said it before that our surface is second to very few, and its one that allows us to play the way we want to play, and if we get the amenities to a point where fans can cheer and be supportive how they want to be, I think there's no limit to what we can have here, so that's pretty exciting."
NOTES
• The Ladyjacks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard--their first two goals came in the opening two minutes of play off the feet of Termini and Fondren.
• SFA earned 12 corner kicks in the contest and posted double-digit shots in each half.
• Mattie Musser and Peyton Graves also scored for the Ladyjacks, with both notching their first career goals in the effort. Caylon McMillan and Kenady Carlile each dished out an assist in the contest, with the former making her first appearance of the 2019 season.
• Friday's contest kicked off a nine-game homestand for the 'Jacks, which continues on Friday, September 6 as Texas comes to Texas' oldest town.
