Charleston, S.C -- The SFA women's soccer team played its second and final game of the Charleston Under Armour Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina on Sunday. The Ladyjacks (0-2-0) posted a strong first half effort but UNC-Wilmington prevailed by a 3-0 score. The game marked the team's only neutral site competition during the regular season, and was played at the Patriots Point Soccer Complex.
NOTES
• SFA suffered from some bad luck in the first half, as two would-be goals were kept off the scoreboard by fluke plays. Katelyn Termini's rocket of a shot in the sixth minute was deflected by the UNCW goalkeeper just enough to deflect up off the crossbar and away, while Mattie Musser's sliding attempt in the 10thminute carried wide and hit the post, bouncing to safety and denying the 'Jacks once again.
• Sophia Fondren tallied four shots and Katelyn Termini had three for the Ladyjacks, who had 10 shots overall. Allyson Halliday recorded another five saves on the day.
• SFA returns home and will open its home schedule with a contest on Friday, August 30 against Southern. That match will be the opening salvo of an eight-game homestand at SFA soccer Field, which will encompass the remainder of the non-conference schedule and the first three matches of league play.
• Allyson Halliday and Colleen Feagins were both named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances in the weekend tournament.
COACH CRITTENDEN'S THOUGHTS
On the quality of opponents at Charleston Under Armour Invitational:
"We came here expecting to play two teams that are NCAA caliber teams in a multi-bid league and we got just that. When playing in tournament finals and against these quality opponents, it is critical that we appreciate and convert the moments that can define games.
On the offensive opportunities created in the game:
On Friday, we had a handful of moments up until the last seconds of the game. Today, we had several high percentage chances in the first 45 minutes. The soccer we played in the 55-60 minute range was very good, and as we mature and begin to take advantage of these opportunities, that is when we will have the chance to go from a good team to a great team. I am confident it will happen as the competitive character and quality on this team is very high."
