SACRAMENTO, CA – A distinguished group of SFA Track and Field's top performers will continue their outdoor season at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, California this weekend. The three-day meet takes the top 48 marks in the NCAA West Region in each event, promising tough competition as participating athletes look to move on to the NCAA National Championship meet in Austin, Texas in June.
A complete schedule of events is listed above, with all listed times in Pacific Time Zone (two hours behind CST). Live results are also listed above, as well as a link to a pay-per-view stream of the weekend's meet via Flotrack.
A total of 20 student-athletes will compete for SFA inside Hornet Stadium over the course of the meet, representing 15 individual performers as well as a trio of relays. Participating SFA athletes and the events in which they will compete are as follows:

Five SFA athletes (Pittman, Murphy, Jackson, Neal and Bizzell) are returning veterans of the NCAA Regional outdoor meet last year, with all qualifying in the same events this season. This year's SFA entourage consists of a healthy mix of Southland All-Conference honorees, program record holders and a trio of NCAA Indoor All-Americans.
Competition begins at noon on Thursday with the start of the men's hammer throw, with the prelims of the running events beginning at 4:30 p.m. The opening day will conclude with the 10000m run finals for the women and men at 9:00 and 9:45, respectively. Friday's schedule follows the same format, with field events beginning at noon with the women's discus, and track events beginning at noon. Day two wraps up with the men's and women's steeplechase final in the evening. The final day's field events begin at 2:45 p.m. with the men's shot put, while the finals of the track events kick off at 6:00 p.m, ending with the 4x400 meter relays at 9:25 and 9:45 p.m.
Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, June 5-8 There is no decathlon or heptathlon competition at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds. The top 24 decathlon and heptathlon marks in the nation earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship site.
