Former Ladyjack signs first professional contract
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Another SFA Soccer alumnus has taken her first steps into a professional soccer career, as Kennedy Rose signed a pro contract with BIIK Kazygurt on Monday. The Shymkent, Kazakhstan based club was also the first pro stop for former Ladyjack Brooke Dunnigan back in 2017.
"Kennedy has given so much to our program and has impacted us to our core", said SFA head coach Wally Crittenden. "I am so proud we were able to work together and build an environment that helped prepare her for this opportunity to play at the next level. Kennedy will continue to define a pathway for our future Ladyjack professionals the same way she has helped define the path for our current college players. I have no doubt that Kennedy will inspire the next round of Ladyjacks as they turn pro. We have now had nine players sign professional contracts in the past six years, although what I am most proud of is that our players are moving on from our program confident, excited about the game and passionate about challenging themselves in different ways both on and off the field. Too often, you hear about players leaving their collegiate programs uninspired and deflated. That is an outcome that will always demand my best efforts as our athletes commit too much to have it any other way."
Rose came to SFA for her final season after playing at Xavier University and Tyler Junior College, and immediately anchored the Ladyjacks atop the league in the fall of 2017. A tenacious on-ball defender and vertical threat on set pieces, Rose was one of the top defensive players in the Southland Conference as well as the region. Her exploits earned her United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team honors in addition to SLC Honorable Mention.
Rose started 20 of SFA's 21 games in her senior campaign and helped the 'Jacks accrue a 12-8-1 record (8-3 SLC) on the way to a berth in the conference tournament title game. She totaled five points on a pair of goals and an assist, and tallied one game-winning goal that season. On the defensive end, Rose's efforts helped the Ladyjacks concede the fewest goals in league play (8), allow the fewest goals per game (.72) and post a league-high six clean sheets.
