Moore Delivers Fourth Multi-Hit Game of 2019 in Midweek Clash at No. 23 TCU

Junior accounts for two of SFA's three hits
FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior infielder Sean Moore put forth his fourth multi-hit effort of the season by going 2-for-2 at the dish, but 23rd-ranked TCU put up a pair of seven-run innings to power the Horned Frogs past the SFA baseball team 19-3 Tuesday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
SCORING SUMMARY
B1 | Each of the three walks issued by SFA starter Cully Mangus eventually crossed home plate as the Horned Frogs struck in their first set of at-bats. Austin Henry sent a two-run single through the right side on 2-1 offering from Mangus to put TCU up 2-0. After just 1/3 of an inning, Mangus was pulled from the game and upon Jacob Stobart entering the Horned Frogs made matters 3-0 with an RBI single by Johnny Rizer. TCU's seven-run inning continued with Henry coming home on a wild pitch by Stobart. SFA's first error on a grounder allowed a fifth run to score before Josh Watson punched a two-out, two-run single to left which concluded TCU's seven-run, five-hit first.
B2 | Stobart surrendered four more hits and two more runs in the Horned Frogs' second frame. Andrew Keefer delivered a one-out, two-run single to center which made matters 9-0.
B3 | A walk, a hit-by-pitch and a single set the table for TCU's Henry once again in the third. He delivered a two-run single up the middle which pushed the Horned Frogs' lead to 11-0.
B4 | Breaking things open even further, the Horned Frogs pounded out seven hits which led to another seven runs in the fourth. Jake Guenther, Alex Isola, Hunter Wolfe and Henry each delivered RBI singles in the fourth while Andrew Keefer pushed one more across on an RBI groundout. Watson started the frame with a sacrifice fly and before all was said and done Rizer added another run with an RBI double.
B7 | TCU's bats were held silent until Dean Frew delivered a two-out RBI double to up the hosts' lead to 19-0 in the seventh.
T8 | The 'Jacks busted up the Horned Frogs' shutout bid with a strong start to the eighth. Marcus Mendez started the frame with an infield single to third before both Will Cerny and Casen White drew walks to load the bases. Mendez came home after a wild pitch from TCU relief arm Dawson Barr before Brandon Uhse came up with an RBI groundout to trim the Horned Frogs' lead to 19-2. A passed ball allowed White to scamper home for SFA's third and final run of the night.
AT THE DISH
• Mendez (1-for-4, run scored) and Moore combined to produce the 'Jacks' three hits on the day.
• In all, TCU amassed 20 hits with seven players enjoying multi-hit games. Henry went 4-for-4 and finished with a game-high five RBI and four runs scored while Watson (2-for-3) and Keefer (2-for-6) combined for six more RBI and five runs scored.
ON THE MOUND
• Haylen Green tossed five innings of two-hit baseball to lock down his first pitching victory of the season for the Horned Frogs. Green racked up five of TCU's 11 strikeouts as the Horned Frogs used five arms in the mid-week clash.
• Mangus (0-1) was tagged with the loss for SFA, giving up four runs on three walks and a hit in just 1/3 of an inning. Joseph Sgambelluri was SFA's most effective arm, delivering 2 2/3 frames of scoreless one-hit baseball.
• Senior Jesus Gamez made his 2019 debut, pitching to the Horned Frogs in the eighth inning. Gamez gave up one hit and struck out one in his lone inning of work.
ON DECK
• SFA begins Southland Conference action with a road trip to Beaumont, Texas, where the 'Jacks are set to take on Lamar in the first three-game league series of 2019 for both squads. Game one at Vincent Beck Stadium is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening.
