Southland Conference Athletes of the Week Release
FRISCO, Texas – The SFA Track and Field program picked up right where it left off in the opening weekend of the 2019 outdoor season, sweeping the league's Athlete of the Week honors on the women's side. Dominique Jackson captured the women's Track Athlete of the Week award while Kaylee Bizzell nabbed women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Jackson, a senior from Richmond, Texas, earned the award thanks to a winning time in the 400m hurdles of 1:02.04 at the Louisiana Classic. The senior also ran a leg of the winning 4x400 meter relay for the Ladyjacks, which took first overall and marked the top time in the Southland Conference thus far. Jackson's 400m hurdles mark is the third best in the league this season.
Bizzell wasted no time getting started in the outdoor season, clearing a new personal best mark of 4.26m (13-11.75) in the women's vault to finish first among collegiate competitors (third overall) at the TCU Invitational. The Golden, Texas native is the reigning Southland Conference Outdoor champion in the pole vault, having won the event last spring to represent SFA.
Athlete of the week nominations are submitted and voted upon by the sports information directors at each league institution. Voting for one's own athletes is not permitted.
