Ladyjacks fall 7-0 to Bearkats
HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The SFA tennis team suffered its second-straight shutout loss in Southland Conference action Saturday as the Ladyjacks fell 7-0 at Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State.
DOUBLES
• Sam Houston State won the doubles point by taking two of the three tandem matches. With that, the Bearkats never relinquished the lead.
• Gabi Guilarte and Kaja Ljubic played the Bearkats' top-flight doubles team of Lusine Chobanyan close but ultimately fell 6-4.
• On the number three line, Armelle Cerdan and Vera Carvalho were within one game of the Sam Houston State duo of DeLaLuz Montalvo and Petra Kaszas, but the third-flight was stopped with the Bearkats ahead by a 4-3 tally after courts one and two finished up.
SINGLES
• Lines five and six were the most competitive as Nida Kamal nearly forced a winner-take-all third set in the fifth flight. After falling 6-3 to Roos Gerritsen in the opening set, Kamal battled back in the second frame and fell 7-6 (7-4).
• Kyndall Misak stepped up in flight six and nearly came up with SFA's first set win of the Southland Conference skirmish. Misak dropped a narrow 7-6 (7-4) showdown to Kaszas in the first frame before Kaszas went on to win 6-2 in the second set.
• Guilarte, Carvalho, Cerdan and Kaja Ljubic each dropped their respective singles matches in two sets.
COMING UP NEXT
• SFA returns home to step out of Southland Conference play Sunday afternoon. At 1:00 p.m. from the Schlief Tennis Complex, the Ladyjacks will tangle with C-USA adversary UTEP in their final home non-conference match of 2019.
