SFA Track and Field Wraps Up Competition at Opening Day of Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. – The SFA Track and Field team kicked off its 2019 outdoor season at the opening day of the Louisiana Classics hosted by Lafayette on Friday afternoon. Three athletes notched Top-5 finishes on the day, and others will compete on Saturday as the meet concludes.
TOP SFA FINISHES
• Antonio Ruiz finished third in the 200m at 21.65, while teammate AJ Bennett finish in fifth in his first competition for SFA (21.73).
• Cord Neal finished fourth in the men's javelin, notching a distance of 54.78m (179-9).
• Maggie Okul took fifth in the women's hammer, reaching a distance of 50.20m (164-8).
• Aaliyah Teel finished seventh in the women's 200m dash at 25.15.
SOUTHLAND RANKS
• Ruiz's time was the third best time in the Southland this season, while Bennett's was the fifth best.
• Neal's mark in the javelin was the second-best in the Southland this season.
• Okul finished with the league's 3rdfarthest mark in the hammer throw.
