
Bowling Wraps Up Regular Season in the Music City

Ladyjacks take on largest tournament field of the season, return to Nashville to complete 2018-19 regular season
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The SFA bowling team's 2018-19 regular season will culminate this weekend in America's Music City at the Smyrna Bowling Center just outside of Nashville, Tennessee, as the Ladyjacks take on Vanderbilt's 15th annual Columbia 300 Music City Classic. For the second-straight weekend, SFA will be competing in Smyrna, Tennessee, after earning a berth to the United States Bowling Congress' (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) for the eighth-straight year last weekend at the 2019 USBC ITC and Intercollegiate Singles Championships (ISC) sectionals.
The three-day tournament held Friday-Sunday, March 15-17 features the largest tournament field of the season as a total of 30 bowling programs from across the nation will converge inside the Smyrna Bowling Center. Seventeen teams who appear in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25 poll will be vying for the tournament title with seven of the nation's top 10 present.
Making final preparations for the 2019 Southland Bowling League Championship in Dallas next weekend, seven of the league's eight members will be in action in Nashville. Along with the Ladyjacks and host Commodores, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston State, Tulane and Youngstown State will be competing at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic. Top-ranked McKendree, No. 2 Vanderbilt, fourth-ranked Arkansas State, No. 5 Sam Houston State, sixth-ranked SFA, No. 9 Saint Francis University (Pa.), 10th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 11 North Carolina A&T, 12th-ranked Tulane, No. 14 Lincoln Memorial University, 16th-ranked Central Missouri, No. 17 Adelphi, 18th-ranked Sacred Heart, No. 20 LIU Brooklyn, 21st-ranked Maryville University, No. 22 Duquesne, 23rd-ranked Louisiana Tech and No. 25 Youngstown State represent the nationally-ranked programs at the tournament, while Drury, Elmhurst, Howard, Kentucky Wesleyan, Lewis, Lincoln University, Monmouth, Mount Aloysius, North Central, Prairie View A&M, St. Francis College (N.Y.) and UAB complete the 30-team field.
Day one of play will get underway Friday, March 15 at 9:30 a.m. with five, five-game Baker matches, followed by five traditional team matches Saturday, March 16 starting at 9:30 a.m. On Sunday, March 17 a Columbia 300 Music City Classic champion will be crowned following three rounds of best 4-of-7 Baker bracket play matches, set to begin at 8:10 a.m.
SFA at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic
This weekend marks the eighth-straight year the Ladyjacks will bowl in the Columbia 300 Music City Classic, finishing 16th among a 32-team field a year ago with a 6-7 record. SFA's two best showings at the annual event cam in 2016 and 2017 when the Ladyjacks posted back-to-back fourth-place finishes. SFA went 11-4 at the 2016 version of the tournament and reached the third-place match before finishing fourth. In 2017, the Ladyjacks reached the third-place match once again and tied their best showing by finishing fourth among 35 total teams with a 9-4 record. Senior Dakotah Hazlewood claimed all-tournament team honors at last season's Columbia 300 Music City Classic after finishing sixth among 207 total bowlers with a pinfall average of 212.8 in five traditional team games.
Last Time on the Lanes
Needing to finish within the top four as a team at the USBC ITC sectional qualifier in Smyrna, SFA punched its ticket to compete for a national title at the 2019 ITC by capturing second place among a 16-team tournament field. The Ladyjacks came a mere five pins from taking home the sectional title, completing 64 Baker games with a final pinfall tally of 12,497. Sophomore Sarah Gill secured a spot in the 2019 ISC, marking the fourth consecutive year SFA will be represented at the USBC's ISC, by placing fifth among 165 total bowlers competing for six qualifying spots. She knocked down 1,266 total pins across six games and rolled games over 200 in the final four games of qualifying.
