Ladyjacks Go 2-1 Sunday, Place Fifth at Columbia 300 Music City Classic

Bowling knocks off No. 10 Wisconsin-Whitewater, defeats Monmouth in fifth-place match as senior Dakotah Hazlewood claims all-tournament team honors
SMYRNA, Tenn. – Competing in a 29-team tournament field, which featured seven of the top 10 teams in the nation and 17 of the top 25, the SFA bowling team recorded its highest pinfall total of the season (13,862) for second-most among all teams at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Nashville. The Ladyjacks posted a 2-1 record Sunday on the final day of Vanderbilt's 15th annual tournament, clinching fifth place after picking up wins over No. 10 Wisconsin-Whitewater and Monmouth to close out the weekend with a 9-4 overall record.
Senior bowler Dakotah Hazlewood garnered all-tournament team honors at the Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee, after finishing third among 172 total bowlers. In five traditional team matches Saturday, Hazlewood averaged a game score of 228.4 and knocked down 1,142 total pins.
Beginning the morning with a 4-2 win over 10th-ranked and sixth-seeded Wisconsin-Whitewater, SFA found itself trailing 1-0 in the opening round of bracket play after dropping the first game of the match by a mere three pins (180-177). However, the Ladyjacks would storm back, claiming the next three games in convincing fashion, 224-203, 219-178 and 257-213, to take a 3-1 lead before being edged 188-181 in game five. SFA clinched the first round match with a 184-161 game six win, advancing to play No. 11 and third-seeded North Carolina A&T in the second round.
After falling behind 1-0 with a 209-187 game one loss, the Ladyjacks tied things up at 1-1 in the match with a 190-170 game two victory. North Carolina A&T won games three and four, 192-170 and 179-169, to take a 3-1 advantage before SFA pulled to within 3-2 with a 216-192 game five triumph. A 204-171 game six went the way of North Carolina A&T to give the Aggies a 4-2 match win, sending the Ladyjacks to the fifth-place match to close out the tournament.
Facing former Southland Bowling League member Monmouth for the Columbia 300 Music City Classic's fifth place, SFA took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 181-164 game one win and an impressive 278-231 game two victory. The two teams came to a 182-182 tie in game three before Monmouth took game four 202-194 to make it 2.5-1.5. The Ladyjacks would take a 3.5-1.5 lead with a 226-172 game five but a 211-202 game six and a 203-160 game seven were won by Monmouth to knot things up at 3.5-3.5. In the decisive five-frame roll off, SFA would prevail 114-82 to clinch the match and fifth place 4.5-3.5.
Second-ranked tournament host Vanderbilt claimed the team title after defeating second-ranked and second-seeded McKendree 4-2 in the championship match. Fellow league member and No. 4 Arkansas State earned third place with a 4-0 shutout of 11th-ranked North Carolina A&T.
Reigning Southland Bowling League Bowler of the Month Maria Bulanova of Vanderbilt was tabbed Columbia 300 Music City Classic MVP after averaging a 236.2 in Saturday's traditional team games and holding a pinfall total of 1,181.
