Ladyjacks see two-match Southland win streak come to an end
ABILENE, Texas - The SFA tennis team saw its two-match Southland Conference winning streak come to an end Sunday as Abilene Christian scored a 7-0 win over the Ladyjacks.
DOUBLES
• Going toe-to-toe with the Wildcats, Gabi Guilarte and Kaja Ljubic suffered a 6-4 defeat on line one before Abilene Christian finished its bid to win the doubles point when Nida Kamal and Kyndall Misak dropped a 6-3 decision to Autumn Bellow and Ileana Mocciola in the second flight.
• Armelle Cerdan and Darinka Tiboldi were within two games of the Wildcats' Allison Stewart and Jordan Henry, but the match was stopped with ACU leading 5-3 after the hosts locked up the doubles point.
SINGLES
• Guilarte drew first blood against Memishishi on the number one singles line with a 6-3 win, but Memishishi came all the way back and scored a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win.
• Ljubic won her second set against Bellow on the number-three line, but Bellow secured a win in the third set to prevent SFA from notching a point. Ljubic dropped her singles showdown via a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 score.
• Cerdan played Henry close in fourth-flight singles but fell 6-4, 6-2.
• Kamal won six total games against Stewart in fifth-flight singles before falling 6-3, 6-3.
COMING UP NEXT
• The conclusion of SFA's three-match road trip comes Saturday when the Ladyjacks head to Huntsville, Texas, for a Southland Conference showdown with Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State. First serve has been set for 1:00 p.m.
