Cayla Burch Named Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Minneapolis native claims second AOW award

FRISCO, Texas – Freshman Cayla Burch has been awarded the women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth week of the indoor season, per a release from the conference office on Wednesday. The award is already the second this season for the Minneapolis, Minnesota native, who won the weekly award for her record-setting performance in the 600y run in the second week of the season.
Running her first 400m race in an SFA uniform, Burch ran to a time of 54.61 in the event, which was the top time in the Southland Conference this season and placed her 54thnationally. Burch also ran a leg of the women's 4x400 relay, which finished eighth on the day but with the third best time (3:49.13) in the Southland Conference behind their own conference-best mark set in the indoor opener.
Through the first few weeks of the indoor season, Burch leads the conference in both the women's 400m and 600y runs, and is a part of the Southland-best 4x400 and distance medley relay teams as well.
Teammate Nastassja Campbell was the top honorable mention in the women's Field Athlete of the Week category after reaching a mark of 4.07m in the pole vault.
