Women’s Golf Moves Up in Final Round of Texas State Invitational

Ladyjacks rise a spot in standings on final 18 holes of play at the Plum Creek Golf Course, finish 12th
KYLE, Texas – Opening up its spring championship play at the Texas State Invitational in Kyle, Texas, the SFA women's golf team rose up a spot in the standings on the final 18 holes of play Monday afternoon. The Ladyjacks, who shot their two lowest rounds of the season thus far Monday, carded a 28-over 312 in the third round on the Plum Creek Golf Course to finish in 12th place with a 57-over 909.
SFA jumped fellow Southland Conference member Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (59-over 911) in the final round and finished ahead of a pair of Sun Belt Conference programs, Arkansas-Little Rock (63-over 915) and UT Arlington (65-over 916), in addition to Texas-Rio Grande Valley (67-over 919).
Junior Alexandra Batista climbed eight spots on the individual leaderboard by shooting a 3-over 74 Monday to tie for 21st among 84 total golfers with a career-low three-round total of 7-over 220, the second-lowest 54-hole score of any Ladyjack this season.
Likewise, senior Jamee Jorgensen turned in a career-best three-round score of 11-over 224, notching a 6-over 77 on the final 18 holes to tie for 31st. Fellow senior Erica Lautensack tied for 45th by scoring a 14-over 227 across the three rounds, while sophomore Kelly Yang tallied a 26-over 239 for the 54 holes and sophomore Alexis Szewczyk a 35-over 248.
UTSA took home the two-day tournament title by shooting a 2-over 854 for the three rounds as Big 12 Conference member Kansas State finished as runner-up with a 22-over 874. Tulsa (23-over 875) finished just one stroke behind the Wildcats for third place.
Sam Houston State's Hannah Alberto (6-under 207) won the Texas State Invitational by posting back-to-back 2-under 69 rounds to close out the tournament. UTSA's Julie Houston (5-under 208) claimed runner-up honors after finishing one stroke from the lead as Tulsa's Lorena Tseng (3-under 210) came in third.

The Ladyjacks will have next week off from competition before returning to tournament action Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 25-26 in Corpus Christi, Texas, at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Islander Classic held at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
