Women’s Golf Begins Spring Play Monday at Texas State Invitational

Ladyjacks open up 2019 competing at 16-team tournament in Kyle, Texas Monday and Tuesday
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The spring championship season for the SFA women's golf team begins Monday morning as the Ladyjacks are in Kyle, Texas, for the Texas State Invitational, held Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 11-12 at the Plum Creek Golf Course. The two-day tournament is the first of five events currently on SFA's schedule for the spring with another soon to be added.
The Format
The 54-hole tournament will get underway Monday morning with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start as two 18-hole rounds will take place on the first day of play. Tuesday, the final 18 holes will be played beginning at 8:15 a.m. once again with a shotgun start.
The Course
The Plum Creek Golf Course is a par-71, 6,059-yard championship course cut from the natural beauty of Texas live oaks, limestone, rolling hills and Texas wildflowers. Spreading out over more than 200 acres, the greens takes full advantage of the natural surroundings and were designed in a way that no two fairways touch.
The Tournament Field
A total of 16 teams will converge in Kyle as the Ladyjacks will see fellow Southland Conference members Houston Baptist, Lamar, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Atlantic Coast Conference's Boston College and the Big 12 Conference's Kansas State will be joined by Cal State Fullerton, Arkansas-Little Rock, Oral Roberts, host Texas State, Tulsa, UT Arlington, UTEP, Texas-Rio Grande Valley and UTSA to complete the tournament field.
The Lineup
Five SFA golfers will take to the links Monday morning with seniors Erica Lautensack and Jamee Jorgensen joining junior Alexandra Batista and sophomores Kelly Yang and Alexis Szewczyk on the Plum Creek Golf Course.
Tee Times
Batista, Jorgensen, Yang and Szewczyk are paired with individual competitors from Texas State and will tee off the first and second rounds from hole 18. Lautensack is paired with individual golfers from Houston Baptist and Boston College and will get started off of hole 17 for Monday's rounds.
Last Time on the Links
The Ladyjacks closed out their fall portion of the 2018-19 schedule with the challenging Little Rock Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas (Oc. 28-30). SFA placed 15th out of 16 teams with a three-round score of 92-over 956 as Batista tied for 46th among 95 total golfers with a final score of 19-over 235.
Last Year in Kyle, Texas
A year ago, the Ladyjacks finished 15th at the Texas State Invitational among a 17-team tournament field with a two-day tally of 90-over 942. Batista turned in a top-15 finish as she tied for 12 among 90 total competitors, posting an 8-over 221 across the three rounds. In 2017, SFA was much more successful, finishing fourth among 16 teams (65-over 917) with Lautensack tying for fourth place (8-over 221) and shooting a season-low 1-under 70 in the third round.

The Ladyjacks will have the following week off from competition before returning to tournament action Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 25-26 in Corpus Christi, Texas, at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Islander Classic held at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
