
Ladyjacks Advance to SLC Championship Match with 3-1 Win over TAMU-CC

Conway, AR -- The SFA volleyball team put together a .355 hitting percentage on the way to a 3-1 win (25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19) against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Saturday at Prince Center to advance to the Southland Conference Championship match.
The out-of-conference victory improved SFA's overall record to 30-1 on the season.
The Ladyjacks offense was paced by Corin Evans, who finished with 19 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .419. Xariah Williams added 11 and Danae Daron chipped in with 10 as part of balanced SFA attack. Defensively, SFA had three players reach double figures in digs, including Madelynn Miller's 20, 12 from Ariana Pagan, and 12 more from Ann Hollas. From the front row, Daron contributed six blocks.

SET 1 | The Ladyjacks survived a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured 14 lead changes and was tied 14 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, SFA put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-18 victory in set number two. The Ladyjacks led from the first point on in the set to secure the victory. SFA opened its biggest lead of the stanza, seven points, to finish off the set, collecting 19 kills while only registering one attack error in the set. The Ladyjacks hit .474 over the course of a set where they racked up 19 kills.
SET 3 | Texas A&M-Corpus Christi stayed alive with a set-three victory to make it a 2-1 match. The Ladyjacks came up short by the score of 25-21. SFA trailed by as many as six points as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was knotted up five times before the Islanders took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | SFA then responded to earn the match win with a 25-19 set-four victory. The Ladyjacks took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure the victory. SFA opened up as much as a seven point lead at 23-16 before finishing off the stanza, totaling 15 kills while only registering one attack error in the process. SFA got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked six Texas A&M-Corpus Christi attacks in the stanza.

The Ladyjacks will go for their second straight SLC title Sunday at 3 p.m. against rival Sam Houston State.
