SOUTH BEND, Indiana- The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks raced in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday in what was their second full meet of the season. The women's team had a productive day as most of the team acquired personal record finishes. The men's team had some hindrances that affected their finish.
The Ladyjacks found themselves finishing in the middle of the pack of the women's Gold Division race, with a 14th overall team finish out of 25, with a time of 1:31:06, totaling 340 points. The first five finishers were in the top 100 for SFA. Leading the SFA pack was Kelsey Ramirez who had an impressive day, finished just outside the top ten, in 11th with a time of 17:23.71 (11 points). Rachel Taylor finished 69th overall with a time of 18:16.28 (69 points). The senior Madison Compass finished 81st overall and had a time of 18:22.27, (81 points). Not far behind was Claire Crone in 84th place with a time of 18:24.75 (84 points). Landing in 97th place overall with 95 points was Taryn Surratt totaling a time of 18:38.04. Rounding out the finishes on the day were Megan Eichler (113th place, 18:45.85, 109 points) and Meredith Clayton (115th place, 18:48.51, 111 points). Freshman Isabel Borrego finished in 124th place with a time of 1`8:57.11.
The men's team in the Gold Division race finished 18th out of 20 teams with a time of 2:09:29, totaling 411 points. Michael Urbina was the first to finish for SFA coming in 53rd place with a time of 25:22.45, and 53 points. Parker Jones finished in 69th place with a time of 25:37.28, good for 68 points. Titus Kiplagat finished in 78th place with a time of 25:45.75, finishing with 77 points on the day, he was "spiked pretty bad in his calf" according to head coach Cody Clark, which ultimately hindered his second half performance. One more finished in the top 100 and that was Yoel Yoel who grabbed 95th place, and got a time of 25:58.03, and 93 points. Pedro Flores got 129th place, and had a time of 26:44.61, with 120 points. Maxwell Murphy finished in 136th place, and had a time of 26:54.76, which was good for 124 points. Ben Murphy finished in 142nd place, he finished in 27:25.48 and had 128 points.
"Overall we have to continue to improve and get back to training", said SFA Cross Country Head Coach Cody Clark. "The next four weeks are real critical for our improvement heading into conference at the end of the month".
SFA will race again on October 19 at the Arturo Barrios Invite in College Station, Texas.
