
Cross Country Set to Race at Rice Invitational on Friday

HOUSTON, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin cross country team will compete as a full team at the 43rd Annual Norry Hersey Rice Invitational on Friday evening, the first time this season the two squads will race at nearly full strength. Both the men's and women's teams will run shorter races, with the men racing a 6K and the women a 4K. A total of nine other institutions are set to join SFA in the fray, including Houston, Houston Baptist, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston State, St. Edwards. Texas, Texas A&M Corpus-Christi and UTRGV.
The women's race start off at 6:15 p.m., after the College Race (1 mile) and Yahoo Race (open to all runners) take place beforehand. Following the conclusion of the women's race, the men will get underway at 6:45 p.m.
This weekend's Rice invitational is the second of six meets on the schedule for the cross country program this fall. The team will next run at the Chili Pepper Festival on the 22nd. A trip back to College Station as part of the Arturo Barrios Invitational on October 13th will precede the Southland Conference Championship on October 26, with the NCAA South Central Region following two weeks later. Any athletes qualifying for the National Championship will travel to Madison, Wisconsin on November 17.
