Six SFA players to compete in two-day ITA-sanctioned event
Ragin' Cajuns Invitational Draws
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Following their first action of the 2018 fall season last weekend in Houston, the SFA tennis team heads across the Texas/Louisiana border into the Pelican State to take part in the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the University of Louisiana.
In all, eight institutions from three conferences (Conference USA, Southland, Sun Belt) will be represented at the ITA-sanctioned event including Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, McNeese, Northwestern State and SFA. All the action begins at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning at the Cajun Courts on the campus of Louisiana with singles action following the opening round of doubles play.
DOUBLES
One of SFA's three doubles teams - the tandem of Armelle Cerdan and Vera Carvalho - will be moving on automatically to the second round of the number-three doubles bracket. They await the victor of the matchup between Louisiana's duo of Morgan Forshag/AK Harvey and the McNeese/Incarnate Word pairing of Charlotte Ziegler and Taylor Parkinso.
In SFA's top-flight doubles dual, Kaja Ljubic and Darinka Tiboldi will battle Northwestern State's Judit Castillo and Ela Iwaniuk and in number-two doubles action Gabi Guilarte and Kyndall Misak take on the Louisiana-Monroe team of Angeles Maria Cueto and Jimena Paula Garbino.
SINGLES
Following doubles play Friday morning, SFA begins its one-on-one battles. Slotted in the number-six singles bracket, Carvalho plays Louisiana's Natalia Nassar while Misak is set to serve it up against Alejandra Tamayo.
Up in the number-four bracket, Cerdan and ULM's Cueto are schedule to duke it out with Ljubic facing off against Northwestern State's Castillo in the number-three singles bracket. Tiboldi's first test in the number-two singles bracket comes in the form of Louisiana's Marina Rodriguez Garcia and in the top-flight singles bracket Guilarte will play Louisiana-Monroe freshman Emilia Alfaro.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Erin Scott, the Ladyjacks are looking to build on a 2018 campaign that saw them narrowly miss out on a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament.
