
Pair of SFA Vaulters Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams Release | Men's | Women's
NEW ORLEANS, La. – A pair of Stephen F. Austin pole vaulters were named to the 2018 USTFCCA NCAA Division I All-Academic Teams for their excellent work in the classroom this past season. Kaylee Bizzell and Chad Horstmann were recognized for the award, which required the student athletes to have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).A total of 626 men across the nation qualified under these criteria, and were joined by 880 women.
"Kaylee and Chad have achieved something in collegiate athletics that is extremely difficult to do; perform at a high level in both the classroom and on the track", said SFA Track and Field Head Coach Phil Olson. "They are both young people of integrity, have a great passion for the pole vault, and are highly motivated to learn. What more could you ask for? We are so proud of them and happy for them."
Bizzell, a junior, capped off one of the more successful track and field seasons around the conference, capturing both the indoor and outdoor championship in the pole vault, with the latter including a new personal best mark of 4.15m, placing her second all-time as SFA in the event. The Golden, Texas native qualified for the NCAA Division I West Preliminary round meet, where she finished 38thin the vault.Horstmann, also a junior, was a third place finisher in the 2018 Southland Conference Outdoor Championship with a PR mark of 5.20m. The San Antonio native also went on to compete at the NCAA Division I West Preliminary Round as well, where he placed 26th overall.
Bizzell is in the nursing program at SFA, while Horstmann is pursuing a degree in Sports Business.
