Ladyjacks Fall in Road Setback at TCU, 4-0

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women's soccer team conceded goals in the opening two minutes of each half in a 4-0 setback at TCU on Thursday night. The loss moves SFA to 1-2-0 on the season.
"One of the takeaways from tonight is that that is a very good team", SFA head coach Wally Critteden said of TCU. "We had seen them play earlier this week, and knew that under the lights and in a little cooler temperature we were going to get a different effort, and we certainly did see that. What a tremendous team they have. They're going to win a lot of games this year, and its important that when we challenge these teams in their environments, these are the sorts of environments in which we want to build our team. We haven't seen a team open us up in the past four years the way that they opened us up tonight, and that's good for us to understand and use to improve."
Messiah Bright netted the game-winning tally in the 2thminute off a point-blank header, and the Horned Frogs tacked on a second goal early in the second half and insurance goals in the 56thand 80thminutes to edge the Ladyjacks in the tenth meeting all-time between the two programs.
"Tonight was not a game that was decided by effort, or competitive spirit, because our kids competed and fought", explained Crittenden. "Frankly it was a game decided by a team that wanted to keep the ball and was gonna put their stamp in possession, and TCU did that. Tonight they were just better in their possession and all around scheme, and that's what decided the game."
Pushing the pressure from the onset, the Frogs scored on the first shot of the contest, Bright's header, and never relented on their offensive pressure, peppering the 'Jacks goal to the tune of a 33-4 shot advantage.
Some of the things that prevented our offensive rhythm were self-imposed", quipped Crittenden. "We had some un-pressured giveaways, specifically in the midfield. You work hard, especially when you're in a defensive posture and you're trying to settle down the game, and then we came out and weren't able to sustain that. Certainly TCU's shape, mentality and the way they anticipated made it a challenge for us to establish a rhythm and open them up, although we did have a couple moments where I felt like we were a pass or two away from putting something special together. Defensively, we spent a lot of energy chasing the game and defending, and when you spend that much energy on that side of the ball you're going to be limited with what you can do in the attack, and that's why possession is so important."
Katelyn Termini and Mari Gillespie recorded a pair of shots apiece for the 'Jacks, while Allyson Halliday turned away seven shots in goal.
The 'Jacks are next in action on a pair of road contests next weekend, beginning with a Friday tilt at Texas Southern on the 31st, before playing at the University of Texas on Sunday.
