BLOOMINGTON, IN -- With her freshman season for the Stephen F. Austin track and field team already in the books, Kelsey Ramirez started her offseason on a high note while competing at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships in Bloomington, Indiana over the weekend. Ramirez accredited herself well, earning All-American honors by finishing within the top six in the 1500m run.
A native of La Porte, Texas, Ramirez ran to a mark of 4:33.87 to take fifth among the ten-person race on Sunday, the third and final day of the meet. By virtue of finishing within the top six in the event, she earned All-American honors, the first such honor of her career. Ramirez's big day comes on the heels of a very successful freshman season, in which she helped the Ladyjacks to a third-place finish in the Southland Conference Indoor Championship and a runners-up finish in the outdoor season. Competing in the mile during the indoor season, Ramirez took second in the event to earn All-Conference honors, while also serving as part of SFA's second-place distance medley relay team. In the outdoor season, Ramirez earn her third All-Conference accolade with a runner-up finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:33.82.
