
Lumberjacks Place Pair of Relay Teams and Six Individuals on Outdoor All-Conference Teams

Ten Lumberjacks earn individual or relay conference honors

FRISCO, Texas – A total of 10 men's track and field athletes—both individuals and relay teams—were recognized to the Southland Outdoor All-Conference Teams on Tuesday, per a release from the conference office. A quartet Lumberjacks earned a total of five individual honors, with Kerry Gleason securing two, while each of the four-man relay teams brought home Second Team honors.
Gleason, a senior, was the top point-getter for the Lumberjacks over the weekend on the men's side, finishing as the individual champion in the 400m hurdles, nabbing Second Team honors with a corresponding finish in the 110m hurdles, and running a leg of the 4x400 relay which took second in the field.
Drake Murphy continued his strong first season at SFA, earning a second place finish in the 800m run to net Second Team honors. The junior ran a time of 1:49.62 in the event to take second, while also securing Second Team accolades in the 4x400m relay as well.
Making a strong foray in his first outdoor season as a Lumberjack was Cord Neal, who earned his first Southland All-Conference accolade in the javelin. A native of Chester, Texas, Neal obliterated his previous personal best with a distance of 62.66m (205-07) in the event.
Chad Horstmann was the fourth individual All-Conference honoree for the Lumberjacks. Horstmann earned his first conference accolade with a clearance of 5.20m (17-00.75), nabbing a podium finish and All-Conference Third Team honors.
Having broken the previous school record earlier in the outdoor season, the men's 4x100 relay group of Aaron Piper, Jared Love, Tedrick Hawkins and Khalil Lacy ran to a mark of 39.55 to beat the record once again and earn Second Team honors in the event. Closing out the meet was the men's 4x400 relay team of Drake Murphy, Tedrick Hawkins, Kerry Gleason and Charles Fentress, who ran to Second Team honors with a time of 3:09.46.
Southland Conference outdoor track & field superlatives are nominated and voted upon by the league's head coaches. Voting for oneself or one's own athletes is not permitted. First, Second and Third Team All-Conference distinction is given to the first, second and third place finishers in each championship event final.
