Box Score
NATCHITOCHES, La. - Pitted against the top team in the Southland Conference Saturday afternoon, the Ladyjacks received a 6-0, 6-2 victory from sophomore Nida Kamal in the number-six singles flight that narrowed their deficit to just one, but Northwestern State closed out the match by claiming wins in each of the final four singles tilts to defeat SFA 6-1 at the Jack Fisher Lady Demon Complex.
Outside of Kamal, Darinka Tiboldi was the only other SFA player who won a singles set in the squad's second Southland Conference setback in a row. The Ladyjacks found themselves at a disadvantage from the get-go after Northwestern State won the doubles point by way of a 6-2 victory on the top line coupled with a 6-0 shutout triumph in the third flight.
When doubles play concluded, Kaja Ljubic and Gabi Guilarte held a 5-4 lead over the Lady Demon tandem of Judit Castillo and Kateryna Avram in the number-two doubles flight. Northwestern State increased its lead to 2-0 after Ljubic suffered a 6-2, 6-1 setback to Ela Iwaniuk on the number-four singles line before Kamal's victory helped the visitors narrow the gap.
Kamal's win came over Avram before the Wildcats clinched the match just a few minutes later. Siân Payne fell 6-2, 6-3 to Polina Ivanova on the number-two singles line before Guilarte's 6-3, 6-4 loss against Polina Mutel in the top flight sealed the deal for the Lady Demons.
Tiboldi regrouped after a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Emilija Dancetovic in the third singles flight and tied things at one set apiece with her 6-2 win in the middle set. Dancetovic, however, got the last laugh with a 10-4 win in set three.
In all, Armelle Cerdan took eight games from Castllo in the fifth-line singles match but Castillo claimed victory 6-4, 6-4 to send SFA home without its second league victory of 2018.
Sunday afternoon the Ladyjacks do battle with a non-conference foe for the first time in a month when Louisiana Tech pays a visit to Nacogdoches. First serve at the Schlief Tennis Complex has been set for 1:00 p.m.
