THE FIRST SERVE
• Back on the courts of the Schlief Tennis Complex for the fourth and fifth times in their nine-month slate during the month of March, the Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team continues Southland Conference competition by welcoming New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana to Nacgodoches over the weekend.
• SFA and New Orleans get going at noon Saturday while the Ladyjacks and Lions face off at the same time Sunday.
• The Ladyjacks head into their two matches this weekend with intentions of securing their first wins of the season. Dating back to the 2017 campaign, SFA has lost 16 consecutive matches but has played things close regardless of the results. Four of SFA's 11 setbacks this season have come by just one point. Also, SFA has won the last four matches against Southeastern Louisiana with their last setback in the series coming on April 5, 2012.
• By winning four singles matches in a row, junior and reigning Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year Kaja Ljubic has upped her win total in singles play to five. Those four wins represent almost one-third of SFA's 13 total one-on-one triumphs this season.
• The teams of Nida Kamal/Darinka Tiboldi and Gabi Guilarte/Siân Payne have each won four doubles matches. As a team, those eight combined doubles wins add up to nearly all of the Ladyjacks' tandem triumphs (nine) in 2018.
SCOUTING NEW ORLEANS | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS
• Rolling into the Schlief Tennis Complex on a three-match winning streak, the Privateers are hoping to move above the .500 mark in Southland Conference play for the first time this season. A 4-3 triumph over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, March 10 in Hammond, La., signified UNO's lone league win of the season.
• The top-two singles winning streaks among the Privateers' ranks belong to Trang Dao and Anja Luethi. Dao, competing exclusively on the top singles line, has won four in a row and owns a 7-3 record. She's one of four UNO singles competitors who has seven or more triumphs to her credit and Luethi falls into that category as well. The Privateers' number-two singles option, Luethi is 9-2 and is undefeated over her last three.
• Dao and Luethi serve as the Privateers' top doubles team, too, having gone 7-1 in dual matches in the top slot. Yurina Asai and Claudette Gilhespie have gone 5-1 in number-two doubles, helping to up the squad's doubles record to 18-11 this season.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS
• A 5-2 win by the Lady Lions over Nicholls Wednesday afternoon in Hammond allowed Southeastern Louisiana to put an end to a five-match losing skid. With that triumph, the Lady Lions were able to secure their first Southland Conference triumph of the 2018 season.
• The doubles play of Dalina Dahlmans and Ximena Yamez has been an important component of Southeastern Louisiana's successes. That pair has gone 7-3 in tandem play, securing 41.1-percent of the team's doubles wins as a result.
• Singles action has been a hit-or-miss proposition for the Lady Lions as only two of the team's competitors own records north of .500. Dahlmans (5-4) leads the squad in singles wins while Fleur Holtkamp has gone 4-5 while competing in the number-one and number-two singles flights. As a team, Southeastern Louisiana is 22-31 in singles action.
COMING UP NEXT
• To conclude their six-match stretch against opponents from the state of Louisiana, SFA starts their two-match weekend on the road when they travel to Natchitoches, La., for a Southland Conference match against Northwestern State. First serve in that tilt is set for 1:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon SFA steps out of league play for a home match with Louisiana Tech. That tilt is scheduled to get going at 1:00 p.m. at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
